Random Bit was founded in 2012 to provide expert Information Technology (IT) consulting services to government clients. We desired to create a work culture for our team members based on the values of Integrity, Excellence, and Responsibility. This culture, along with the skills, experience, and knowledge of our team members, benefits our clients in speed of execution and quality of the work product.
How We Work
The Random Bit approach to client-delivery was created to produce high-value work with as low ceremony as possible. We continuously strive to set, manage, and deliver on project expectations between all stakeholders and within the construct of the leadership structure. We spend our energy focusing on delivery by staying away from drama.
Where We Are
Random Bit’s corporate headquarters is located in Monroe, North Carolina but our team works all around the country.

Susanne Ungerer
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder
Susanne Ungerer is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Random Bit. Susanne has worked for over 20 years in the government health and human services field as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Testing Team lead, and Systems Training Manager in the areas of Child Support Enforcement system projects, Medicaid, and Social Security Disability. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and loves watching any Tarheel sports team!
Gerhard Ungerer
Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder
Gerhard Ungerer is the Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Random Bit. Gerhard has worked in the information technology field for over 30 years including defense, insurance, finance, health, engineering, and human services. His various positions include: Chief Information Officer, Enterprise Architect, Director of IT Processes and Quality Assurance, Project Manager and an IT Consultant. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa). In his free time, Gerhard enjoys flying and restoring cars.
David Ulmer
Chief Information Officer
David Ulmer is the Chief Information Officer for Random Bit. David has held senior and executive management positions in the public and private sectors, with emphasis in information technology management, security, and enterprise transformation. Most recently, he served as CIO and Deputy Director for South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, but he has experience in transportation, financial services, and manufacturing/distribution. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Furman University, Greenville, SC, and Master of Business Administration from Goizueta School of Business at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where he focused on operations management. In his free time, David enjoys fishing on the South Carolina coast.
Pat O’Cain
Chief Operating Officer
Pat O’Cain is the Chief Operating Officer for Random Bit. Pat worked over 35 years in South Carolina State Government Information Technology, notably serving as Senior Assistant Comptroller General with the Office of Comptroller General and Deputy CIO for Enterprise Projects with the Budget and Control Board. Most recently, Pat was the Director of the ICT PMO at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina School of Business – Management Science. In his free time, Pat enjoys visiting the South Carolina coast.
Lori Morrow
Chief Administrative Officer
Lori Morrow is the Chief Administrative Officer for Random Bit. Before joining Random Bit, Lori worked for 11 years as a corporate paralegal at Compass Group USA. She also has experience in human resources, corporate recruiting, and training. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Paralegal Certificate. In her free time, you will find Lori rowing or in her garden.
Sonia Gaur
Human Resource Coordinator
Sonia Gaur is the Human Resource Coordinator for Random Bit. Sonia has worked over 9 years as a human resource professional in different industries. She is experienced in optimizing human resource operations, enhancing talent acquisition, and aligning human resource strategies with business objectives. She holds an MBA degree from Jaipuria Institute of Management (India) in Human Resources. In her free time, she finds joy in seeking out new hiking trails.
